Professional Study Tour to Germany

As part of a Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) delegation’s professional study tour to Germany, Engr. Mrs. Akingbagbohun attended a workshop on “Sustainable Infrastructure and Smart Engineering Systems” delivered by Prof. Dr. Juan Ocampo at BBW Hochschule in Berlin on 22 June 2026.

The following day, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Berlin, received by Ambassador-Designate H.E. Ita Enang and senior officers of the Mission, as part of collaborative efforts between the Institution and the Mission on capacity building and strengthening infrastructural partnership between Nigeria and Germany. NICE’s National Chairman highlighted opportunities for deeper cooperation in infrastructure development, transportation systems, renewable energy, smart city initiatives, water resources management, and environmental sustainability, and thanked the Embassy for its support.

Responding on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Ambassador-Designate welcomed the delegation and commended NICE for the study tour, noting that exposure to Germany’s engineering and technological systems offers valuable lessons in innovation, research, and skills development. He encouraged the delegation to translate the knowledge gained into tangible benefits for Nigeria through technology transfer and institutional partnerships, and reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to facilitating collaboration between Nigerian institutions and German universities, technical colleges, and skills development centres.

The delegation also engaged with Baukammer Berlin, where Engr. Mrs. Akingbagbohun spoke on engineering as “a profession without borders,” reflecting on the lessons Nigerian engineers could draw from Germany’s standards, infrastructure delivery and technical regulation, and on what Nigeria’s own experience across transportation, housing and industrial infrastructure offers in return. NICE presented an Award of Appreciation to Frau Dipl.-Ing. ETH Nicole Zahner, Vice President of Baukammer Berlin, in recognition of her support for the exchange, with the visit framed as the start of a lasting partnership between Baukammer Berlin and the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers.
